Why Go Raw: A Message from Arnold
I’ve watched over my human during late nights on his computer muttering to himself about something called a “raw diet.” I can’t tell why he stays up so late reading, but I’ve deduced that it has been for the benefit of my health. Some sled and racing dogs I’ve met at the park say that they’ve been on a raw diet their entire life and they looked pretty healthy to me. I was told a story about an Australian Veterinarian that conducted studies on a raw food diet in 1993. That’s longer than I’ve been alive! He discovered that a grain based commercial pet food can actually be harmful to us animals by overworking our digestive system, so he created BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food). I’m not a huge fan of the acronym, but the diet seems to work.
Since my human started feeding me a raw diet, people won’t stop taking about how soft and shiny I am. It makes being pet feel even better than before if you can believe it. My teeth feel cleaner, my breath smells fresher, and I’m not nearly as tired as I used to be. I could spend hours at the park or on a walk now! Speaking of walks, it’s even great for the furless one that I’m on this diet too. I’m a big boy, so keeping me at a healthy weight of 150lbs, means I have to eat a lot, and eating means poop. The water content of the food helps my body use the meat much more efficiently, making my poops smaller and even less smelly! My human very much enjoys that benefit when he’s picking it up.
I wouldn’t have been able to do this research myself, so I’m quite glad it has been done for me. It’s now up to you to make the “to raw or not to raw” decision for your pet just like my human did. I really hope you do. I feel great!
